Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record (per company policy/insurer requirements).
Employment is contingent on passing a background check consistent with applicable law.

Position Overview

The Residential HVAC Service & Maintenance Technician is responsible for the hands-on installation, commissioning, diagnostics, repair, testing, and adjustment of residential heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. The role requires ensuring that installed and serviced equipment operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes, manufacturer specifications, and company standards.

Scope includes field execution of installations and service work on furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, refrigeration units, oil burners and associated ductwork, piping and controls; post-installation testing and balancing; onsite troubleshooting and corrective repair; documentation of work; coordination with service managers, contractors and building owners; and maintenance of assigned tools and service vehicle.

Primary Objectives and Key Results (OKRs)

Objective: Deliver code-compliant, reliable installations and repairs.\n Key Results: Achieve 100% completion of installation checklists and manufacturer check-outs for all assigned jobs; maintain zero critical code violations on post-installation inspections.
Objective: Minimize customer disruptions and repeat service events.\n Key Results: Reduce individual technician call-back rate to under 5% per quarter; achieve mean time to resolution (on-site) of less than 4 hours for standard service calls.
Objective: Ensure energy-efficient system performance for customers.\n Key Results: Complete commissioning and performance verification on 100% of new installations with measured SEER/HSPF or AFUE parameters meeting or exceeding specified targets; document measured performance on service reports.
Objective: Maintain high customer and stakeholder confidence.\n Key Results: Obtain a customer satisfaction score (internal survey) of ≥90% for completed service and installation jobs; resolve ≥95% of reported issues without escalation to warranty department.

Key skills, abilities and knowledge required

Technical competence: Proficient in installation, start-up, commissioning, diagnostics and repair of residential HVAC equipment including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, and refrigeration basics.
Regulatory and safety knowledge: Working knowledge of local mechanical, fuel/gas and electrical codes; EPA 608 certification (or equivalent) for refrigerant handling; familiarity with combustion safety procedures, ventilation and carbon monoxide testing.
Diagnostic and instrumentation skills: Competence using multimeters, gauges/manifolds, refrigerant scales, combustion analyzers, anemometers/flow hoods and insulation/pressure testing equipment.

Preferred certifications/experience: Journeyman/apprenticeship completion or equivalent field experience; gas/oil service credentials where applicable; experience with residential heat pumps, ductless systems, and service on oil burners or combustion systems.

The technician reports to the Service Manager and is accountable for meeting the OKRs and KPIs above. Performance is reviewed on a regular cadence (monthly KPI review and quarterly OKR assessment).
